600-Acre Fire Contained In Polk County

Firefighters in Polk County say they’ve contained a 600-acre brush fire that burned near Interstate 4.

The fire broke out Wednesday night in Lakeland after an apparent lightning strike.

Crews say once the humidity dropped overnight, the flames began to pick up.

Firefighters worked for hours overnight and in rough terrain to get the fire under control.

The fire was in a rural area and didn’t threaten any homes.

Crews will continue to watch for hot spots.
