Historic First Meeting of Commuter Rail Commission

Osceola County, Florida – The newly formed Commuter Rail Commission held its first meeting recently to begin planning for the implementation of the commuter rail system in Central Florida. The first order of business was to elect officers:

Chairman – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer
Vice Chairman – Orange County Richard Crotty
Secretary – Seminole County Commissioner Carlton Henley
Osceola County Vice Chairman Bill Lane
Volusia County Commission Chairman Frank Bruno Jr.

The Commission then adopted a resolution, similar to the resolutions adopted by each county, supporting the commuter rail in Osceola, Orange, Seminole and Volusia Counties and the City of Orlando.

Next a Technical Advisory Committee was established consisting of representatives from each governmental entity in which commuter rail will travel through, including the City of Kissimmee.

“We can’t keep widening our roads and citizens may not see the immediate benefits,” said Osceola County Vice Chairman Bill Lane, “but 5, 10, 15 years from now we’ll all be glad we did it.”
