POINCIANA | A Poinciana teenager is in the Osceola County Jail, charged with murder in the July 19 shooting death of a man outside a Town Center Drive food store.
Enmanuel Mendez, 19, is charged with the death of Hakeem Ahmed Rasheed, 23, also of Poinciana.
According to sheriff’s spokesperson Twis Lizasuain, the shooting took place about 10 p.m. outside the Food Mart.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Rasheed dead in front of the store.
Witnesses said the shooter got into a green Pontiac Grand Prix with three other people inside and drove off.
The car was recovered later in Polk County, but not before it hit another car while fleeing the scene.
Lizasuain said the witnesses identified Mendez as the shooter, saying he was in the passenger seat of the Pontiac when it drove away.
“He wasn’t in the car when the shooting occurred,” she said. “The two were having an argument, standing on the sidewalk.
“(Mendez) knew the victim, but we don’t know what the argument was about,” she said.
The Osceloa County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant for Mendez on July 21 and found him that night at a Brixham Court residence.
“He does have a criminal record for either burglary or robbery dating back to when he was a juvenile,” Lizasuain said, “but not for anything this serious.”
