At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday night, December 28, 2007 61-year old Frances “Faye” Basel, walked away from her residence, 2118 Saxon Ln. Lakeland, in an unknown direction. Her husband, Mr. Charles Basel has told investigators his wife suffers from acute anxiety. She went missing from the residence around 9:30 p.m. Friday. He last saw his wife near the front door when she said she was going to get their cat. Mrs. Basel has a prior history of periods of confusion and wandering away. Sheriff’s Office units responded to the scene–the residence and surrounding areas were thoroughly searched. Aircraft and bloodhound responded to the scene.
A k-9 track was conducted which lead east from the scene along Daughtery Rd. to the Wal-Mart store. The store and parking lot were checked. Area businesses were checked as well as churches. On prior occasions the victim has gone missing she normally stayed within the subdivision she resides in and has been found sleeping inside a vehicle. Vehicles were checked in the area as well as at Wal-Mart.
Aircraft checked area lakes, parks and subdivisions. Local cab companies were called with negative results. Mrs. Basel left her cell phone at the residence and she has no drug or arrest history.
Mrs. Basel is described as a white female 61 yoa approx. 5’04”, 150 lbs, long black hair last seen wearing a crème colored long sleeve blouse and a similar colored woven material skirt. See attached photograph. P.C.S.O. members are continuing a search today. Anyone with any information about Mrs. Basel’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at 863.533.0344. No foul play is suspected at this time.
