POINCIANA – A distraught family cried foul after their beloved pit bull was shot dead by Osceola County deputies Saturday night.
Deputies shot Precious, the 13-month-old pit bull, as her owners’ daughter watched from a window.
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office said two deputies responded to a call of a potentially vicious dog roaming in the area of Nancy Court without a leash.
The Sheriff’s Office said the deputies felt threatened, so they shot the dog.
June Farrell, Precious’ owner, said she did not believe proper force was used.
“For me, I think the Humane Society should have been called, because they’re professionals with dogs,” Farrell said. “They came, and they didn’t even evaluate. They just shot my dog down.”
“The deputy did feel threatened, because the dog was snarling. It did aggressively approach him, and he did what he thought was necessary to get that animal not to attack him,” said Twis Lizasuain, a spokeswoman for the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office began investigating the shooting.
The dog’s owners said Precious had no behavioral problems, and if they could do it again, they would have never let her loose without a leash.
Stupid pet owner. Stupid for getting a pit bull. Stupid for being irresponsible and breaking the law by letting a dog outside without a leash. There is a leash law for good reason! I don’t want my kids coming into contact with any loose pit bulls! She should get a citation for that. I’m glad they shot the dog. One less violent creature in Poinciana. When will the public learn? If you are stupid enough to get a pit bull, even though your homeowners’ insurance won’t cover you with one, and then you’re stupid enough to let it loose as well, you deserve a ticket. I hate people like that who cost us taxpayers money. Filing a complaint? Investigation over a shooting of a dog known to be violent and even turning on their owners and their owners’ childtren? Please, as that ABC 20/20 guy says, “Gimme a break!”
A dead pit bull is a good thing.
so are dead ignorent people… its Not the dog its the owners. as for you flybynight there is nothing wrong with a trained pitbull but if the dog is not trained just like a human there viscious, mean, and stupid…
wow flybynight you have no emotional feeling towards other people as I can see. She looked at her dog as one of her own children and your saying all of those things. Yeah she didn’t put her dog on a leash she f*cked up but were human. If that dog was a threat I think that someone would be dead by know or it would have attacked someone because I’m pretty sure that’s not the first time she did it. I think the reason why pitbulls have such a bad reputation is because of the owner and the way the owner raises it. I know many people who have pitbulls and they are really loving dogs and I as well have a pitbull and he is the cutest thing. In the other hand my grandmother was given a maltese that tries to attack and bites because the dog bit me and everyone in the house . The reason why the dog was like that is because he was abused by his owner . My grandmother has had that dog for two months know and he is like a brand knew dog. If you hit or treat the dog bad what do you expect . I think that the whole pitbull band is stupid. It’s not the dogs fault its the owners. I do believe that very high tickets should be given out to people that have pits and they let them roam around the street. I myself was taking my dog for a walk on two occasions and was confronted by a pitbull two different ones. My dog just stood in front of me. smelled the other dog and then the dog walked away. If there so bad of a dog I should probably be dead to… So like I said don’t blame the dog, blame the person who raised it. I feel very bad for the women who lost the dog and feel even sadder that her 13yr old daughter had to witness such thing. And to you flybynight you should lighten up or take some yoga maybe it will make you into a happier person because you sound to me to be very bitter and angry person. You really need to work on that .
Pitbulls should be eliminated off the face of the earth. Alot of people feel that way. I wouldn’t trust them even if they were tamed. I could say alot more too, with the word ELIMINATION.
I have seen too much of what they do.

I don’t condone shooting guns in such a populated area as Poinciana, but this area simply has too many of these type of dogs. Maybe Osceola should consider an educational campaign to help dog owners choose better breeds of dogs for pets. There are so many out there.
A note: Pit bulls are not necessarily unstable dogs but, as I’ve discovered, they act out in violence, much to a reflection of their owners. I, for example, owned a pit bull and he was the sweetest, most loving creature. Given a rotten owner, one vet told me, this same dog could’ve been a killer. (He had the jaws for it.)
