Osceola County Manager Appoints New Fire Chief

Osceola County, Florida – Osceola County Manager Mike Freilinger announced that he has offered the position of Fire Chief to Richard Collins, current interim fire chief for the county. Collins has accepted the offer and begins his new duties immediately.

“Rich Collins is well qualified and is the right man for the job. I know he’ll do a good job for the citizens of Osceola County,” said Osceola County Commissioner Chairman Ken Shipley.

Collins was hired by Osceola County in 2005 and was previously employed for 16 years at the Darien-Woodridge Fire Department in DuPage County, Illinois.

  1. You Have Got To Be Kidding Me!!!!! I am just wondering how an individual, (Richard Collins), with only a High School education and NO Florida Firefighting standards can become the Fire Chief of one of the largest counties in the State. I guess he knows the right things to say huh? Good luck with that decision Mr. Freilinger, I guess you are only concerned with a “Yes” man than someone who is qualified for the position.

  2. We have been through many Fire Chief’s in my 11 years living in Osceola County. Surely someone has to be the right person for the job?

  3. Having worked for Collins, this is truly the Counties biggest mistake. Nothing like having a back stabbing, YES man running the Fire Department!!!!

  4. Are there others that feel the same as you do?
