Osceola County – On August 5, neighborhoods across Osceola County are encouraged to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide to celebrate the 25th Annual National Night Out (NNO), a crime and drug prevention event. The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents to turn on an outside light from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to support the campaign. This year, four Osceola County neighborhood watch programs will participate by providing activities for their residents: Brighton Lakes, Holopaw, Spring Lake Village and Remington. In addition, the Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit will make an appearance at various communities by flying over and “shining a light” at these neighborhood events.
The purpose of this event is to increase awareness of crime and drug prevention, generate support for local anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and law enforcement-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
“This is a night for citizens to stand together to promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity,” stated Sheriff Bob Hansell. “National Night Out showcases the vital importance of law enforcement-community partnerships and citizen involvement to build safer neighborhoods.”
