Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd announces removal of basketball goals and posts at Central and South County Jail. Goals, including backboards, rims, nets, and posts will be given and installed at local Churches. One set of basketball outdoor equipment will be removed at today at 1:30 p.m. at Central County Jail, building two and then set up a local nearby church.
On Thursday, December 23, 2010, at approximately 1:30 p.m., at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Central County Jail, located at 2390 Bob Phillips Road, Bartow, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd will announce the removal of the basketball goals inmates use for recreation at the jail, and that they will be relocated to area churches. One of the goals will be installed at a local Bartow church in time for Christmas.
“Going to jail is not fun and games—if you want to play basketball, stay out of jail.” -Sheriff Grady Judd.
Just in time for Christmas, Turning Point Worship Center in Bartow will receive a basketball post, backboard, rim, and netting (installed) for their church community. Deputies will also be giving out basketballs to go along with the new hoops.
The Sheriff will announce on Thursday eight other churches—in areas throughout Polk County—that will receive basketball goals from the Central and South County jails—these churches have expressed a need for a basketball goal for youth or other programs.
So tax payer money is going to fund basketball activities for a Church. That’s clearly illegal. Why not send them to a Mosque or Temple, oh wait….we all know why.
