As part of the ongoing Boggy Creek Road Bridge reconstruction project, crews will pour a bridge deck on the new eastbound lanes of Boggy Creek Road over the Florida Turnpike at approximately 4:00 a.m. on March 5, 2007.  During that time, traffic will be directed to a single lane on the Turnpike.

As part of the ongoing Kissimmee Park Road reconstruction project, traffic lane switches will take place beginning March 5, 2007. 

Starting at the intersection of  Kissimmee Park Road  (also known as Old Canoe Creek Road) and Neptune Road, traffic will be moved to the new southbound lanes to Kilt Court, switched back to existing northbound lanes at Windy lane, switched back to new southbound lanes between  the Kissimmee Park Road and Old Canoe Creek Road intersection, tying back to the existing roadway.

Osceola County * Meet Sheriff Bob Hansell at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office Annual Community Appreciation Day and Open House on Saturday, March 17, 2007, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Osceola County Sheriff’s Administration Complex, 2601 E. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway.
Enjoy crime prevention and safety displays, and K-9 and S.W.A.T. demonstrations. Child fingerprinting and ID kits, and VIN etching will be available. Recruiters will offer information about law enforcement careers and positions at the Sheriff’s Office. There will be activities for children and adults including door prizes, face painting, a balloon artist, moon walk and live music.  In addition, food and drinks will be available.

servin_mariela21607.jpgOsceola County (2/16/2007) * At approximately 6:01 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 5165 Apollo Avenue in Holopaw. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the homeowner who indicated she heard a loud noise and saw a car running over something or someone in her front yard. She went outside to see what had happened and found the victim, Juan Gabrial Hernandez,31, laying in the front yard with injuries to his legs.  Hernandez was treated at the scene by fire rescue and transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Brevard County. 
According to Hernandez, he and his wife Mariela Servin (DOB 5/17/84) got into a verbal dispute at their house. He left the home and was walking down the street when he saw Servin attempt to hit him with their vehicle. As he tried to jump a neighbor’s fence, Servin came after him again in the vehicle, running over his legs. Deputies located Servin a short time later at a relative’s house. They obtained a statement from her regarding the incident.
Based on the information provided, deputies charged Servin

fussell_amy-l21207.jpgturner_george-s21207.jpgOsceola County  * On February 10 at approximately 5:40 a.m., Osceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Ramada Resort, 7470 W. Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway in Kissimmee, in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with an employee who indicated she witnessed two hotel guests steal lottery tickets behind the deli counter of the hotel’s restaurant. The employee was able to identify the two suspects who recently checked into the hotel.  Deputies located the suspects in their room and a further investigation led to the recovery of methamphetamine. 
Amy Lynn Fussell (DOB 8/1/86) was arrested and charged with Burglary (F.S.S. 810.02) and George Steven Turner (DOB 5/27/68) was arrested and charged with Burglary (F.S.S. 810.02-2a), Retail Theft (F.S.S. 812.015-2) and Possession of Methamphetamine (F.S.S. 812.015-2). Both were booked into the Osceola County jail.

barnett_nathaniel21207.jpgwarren_shawnta-natasha212.jpgOsceola County  * On February 11 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the Osceola County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol Unit, on its first assignment since the unit was re-established, was working a detail at the Osceola County Fair.  While patrolling the parking lot area they discovered an unoccupied vehicle with the passenger door open and in plain view were two bags of marijuana in the center console.  Deputies waited for the occupants to return and leave the property. A traffic stop was conducted at E. 192 and Shakerag Road. A search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana and crack cocaine.  The driver, Nathaniel Barnett (DOB 9/11/85) who did not have a valid driver’s license admitted the drugs belonged to him. Barnett was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana under 20 grams (F.S.S. 893.13-6b), Possession with Intent to Sell Cocaine (F.S.S. 893.13-1a1), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (F.S.S. 893.147-1) and Driving without a License (F.S.S. 322.34-5).
A background check of the passenger, Shawnta Natasha Warren (DOB 8/25/86) revealed an active warrant for attempting to elude law enforcement. Warren was arrested for Violation of Probation (F.S.S. 948.06) and taken to the Osceola County jail.  Four children ages 11 to 3 were also in the vehicle. Their mother was contacted and she arranged to have them picked up.

Osceola County  * On February 9 at approximately 10:13 p.m.., the lundgren_james-max21007.jpgOsceola County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 3805 Jackfish Lane (East Lake Fish Camp) in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with several witnesses who indicated two neighbors, who knew each other were in a verbal and physical argument. When the one neighbor, Eric Hurd asked the other, James Lundgren (DOB 12/3/51)  to leave, Lundgren returned with a gun and shot Hurd several times. Eric Hurd was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies located Lundgren who had returned to his mobile home and was sitting on the porch.  He was taken into custody without incident. Deputies also recovered a gun nearby.
Based on the information detectives gathered, the suspect, James Lundgren was arrested and charged with Murder (F.S.S. 782.04-1a1) and taken to the Osceola County jail. Detectives continue to investigate.

College Goal Sunday: Sunday 2/25/07 from 1:00-3:45 PM, at the Central library in Kissimmee on the 2nd floor. Guidance counselors from the Osceola School District will be on hand to help students with the Free application for student aid. Please call 407-870-4859 to reserve a spot for assistance.

The Osceola School District Professional library is open to all residents of Osceola County with verification of residency. Each person may check out up to 15 items for a four week period. Lake County School Board member Cindy Barrow has brough this to my attention. Five children from Umatilla High School are homeless.  One extended family member is trying to cover the cost of funeral expenses for three family members who were killed by the tornados. 

Umatilla High School Principal June Dalton will gladly accept donations of cash or gift cards (from Publix, Wal-Mart, Target, or Home Depot) and will ensure that they reach the affected families.

narvaez_alberto-lator4.jpgOsceola County  * On February 9 at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Osceola County Sheriff’s office Narcotics Enforcement Team (NET) conducted a search warrant at 124 Tulpan Drive in Kissimmee.  Agents found approximately  13.5 pounds of marijuana, 14 xanax pills and cocaine in the house.  In addition, agents seized over $5,700 in cash. The resident, Victoria Rettstatt (DOB 3/21/83) told agents the drugs and pills belonged to her boyfriend Alberto Narvaez (DOB 12/22/81) who was not home at the time. 
A short time later, deputies located Narvaez in a vehicle near Tulpan Drive and Zacalo Way in Kissimmee and a traffic stop was initiated. Narvaez was, a passenger in the vehicle.  A handgun was also found underneath the passenger seat which violated his probation status. Based on the information deputies obtained, Narvaez was arrested for Violation of Probation (F.S.S. 948.06-1) for an earlier drug charge. He was booked in the Osceola County jail.  Agents continue to investigate with additional charges pending.
